The AUTHORIVIEW Interview - Vanessa M. Chattman

Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

I'm working on my horror novel book series titled, "The Black Sea of Roses" , I'm planning on writing an octology of "The Black Sea of Roses". I'm currently working on book 3 in my horror book series. The title is, "The Black Sea of Roses: A Novel {The Black Medallion, Book 3). I was born on September 5th, 1970, in Newark, NJ. Then my family moved to East Orange, NJ a few years later. I graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School in 1989. After graduation I joined the US Army in 1990 served on Active Duty for four years and ten months. I'm a Desert Storm war veteran. I'm a Vincennes University College graduate and received an AAS degree, I was accepted into the International Poetry Hall of Fame in 1997. My poems have been published in three different anthologies. I wrote a play called, "Street Gigs", and a Screenplay titled, "ZEROX CODES" in 2008. My First horror Novel is titled “The Black Sea of Roses: (Book 1) that was published on October 17th, 2019, by a company owned by Amazon, Amnet Systems, my second horror Novel titled "The Black Sea of Roses: A Novel (The Antique shop, Book 2) was published on April 30th, 2021, by The Book Baby Publishing Company. I also wrote a collection of poetry, called The Poetry Series. The Poetry Series book has 290 pages and was published on July 4th, 2020, by The Dorrance Publishing Company.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

When I was stationed overseas while I was in the Army in the early 90's. I began to do research about how to write poetry, screenplays, plays, and novels. Then during those moments of consistent ongoing research, I decided that I wanted to pursue the lifelong goal of becoming a published author.

Yes, my unique writing habits consist of me creating a horror novel book outline for self-guidance.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?

Stephen King

Give us an interesting fun fact about your book.

I really don't have any fun fact about my book because it's horror. There is nothing fun about horror.

How long does it take you to write a book?

It takes me a year or longer to finish a Novel.

What do you think about the role of readers?

I think the role of readers is very stressful because they need to make a decion about what they are interested in reading.

Have you experienced writer’s block? How did you get through it?

I have experienced several moments of writer's block through the journey of my writing career. I tried getting through it by keeping a notebook filled with plenty of notes about my horror novel story and hoping to accomplish the goal of finishing a book from those notes.

What do you plan to write next?

Hopefully I will be able to finish writing my next horror novel book titled, "The Black Sea of Roses: A Novel (The Black Medallion, Book 3) at the end of this year 2025.

What is your most treasured possession?

My writing journal

Who or what has been the greatest love of your life?

My children and my deceased husband

Which living person do you most dislike?

Nobody

What is your greatest fear?

This question has nothing to do with writing, so I really do not know

What is your greatest regret?

I guess my greatest regret is not being able to write more books when I was in the Military.

If you could choose to be a character in a book, who would it be?

I think I would be a business owner.

What is your favorite journey?

The pathway to success in life.

What do you do as a hobby?

Reading, listening to music and doing nature walks.

Give us an interesting fun fact about your book.

I do not have a fun fact about my books because I write horror novels and there is nothing fun about horror.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

The challenges that I find while I'm writing is focusing on locations and time periods.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

Listening to music

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

My advice to aspiring authors is to never give up.
